O. M. G! This made me feel like a kid again! I honestly didn’t want it to end. This is the second time in my life reading this series. The first was when I was somewhere between 8 and 10…? Which makes sense why I didn’t fully understand what I was reading, as it is very smartly written and I was but a wee child.
If you’ve never read any of the Narnia titles than you likely don’t know the idea behind the series. It’s written to be a telling of all Narnian history, the exciting periods anyway. Nobody wants to read about the times when there was no action, only peace and love, according to Mr Lewis.
Aslan, the lion and creator of Narnia and all its talking creatures, is said to be Mr. Lewis’ representation of God. I’ve also heard that Jesus was referred to as a lion somewhere in the Bible. This gives Aslan’s death scene in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe an interesting perspective as it read very similar to Jesus dying on the cross.
Fun fact: At the time when I read this originally; The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe appeared as first in the series. It has since been decided by Mr. Lewis to rearrange the order, making The Magician’s Nephew the first book, in-which the creation of Narnia was explained. This led up to Lucy and Edmund’s first experiences within the wardrobe, finding themselves exploring a world so very similar to, but leagues apart, from where they came from.
Fun fact #2: Mr. Lewis’ full name is Clive Staples Lewis, but all his friends called him Jack. He was, in fact, great friends with JRR Tolkien. I’ve never read the Lord Of The Rings trilogy but it has now earned a place on my to-do-reading-list for this simple fact.
