Author: Blake Crouch
Genre: science fiction, thriller
I’m at p. 132 and want to see if I understand this complex ideology Mr. Crouch has set forth. The idea that as we make choices in the timeline of our lives, the choices lead us down a path; I.e. path A or B depending on the choice made at this critical juncture. Choosing option A then leads your life’s timeline to the next choice there is to make then continues to the next, and so on, and so forth, splitting and dividing as the choices are made.
What if there are alternate universes where instead of path A we chose path B and there is a timeline out in the ether that follows the life path those specific choices created as well as the path not taken.
It’s very complicated but I think I get it.
In a way it kind of reminds me of The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe series. The way Mr. Lewis described all the worlds, ‘universes’ if you may, as puddle like. If you jump in one puddle you go to a specific universe. Jump in another and go to that specific universe. Climb out of the puddle and see all the universes?
Really makes one think of the infinite possibilities this could produce. I cannot wait to get on with reading this story. More to come later…
Later: I absolutely loved the idea of this book but must admit I wasn’t a fan of the ending. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but I expected more of a standoff between the two Jason’s than what was delivered.
Conclusion: read it. Don’t read it. I’ll leave the choice up to you.
