I am so happy that I was able to come across this novel and give it my attention! Well done, Mz. Klehfoth! I was a little leery at first because of the subject matter. My first impression was that this was going to be a look inside the cutthroat world of the elite told from a young adult’s perspective.
Dark reading indeed, but I was pleasantly pleased that you peppered your prose with positivity and a touching level of probity (morality).
Question. Are long buried secrets best to let lie where they lay? Or is truth and justice more important? Will the truth of these lies set the characters free? Or will it lead to swift and strict legal repercussions, including imprisonment?
This twister of a novel portrays the point of view as told from the daughter’s perspective. Mom left the scene unexpectedly years ago. Unknown is the motive behind the disappearance. Did she simply buy a new life and run away? Or was there something more sinister to the story?
Present day, the daughter is an upper classman and has just received a coveted invitation that only VIP’s ever receive. The cost of admission? One diamond studded dog collar from the headmaster’s dog and a racy photo of her making out with her teacher. Once the items have been secured and turned over to the secret society what happens then? And more disturbingly, what about the secrets that already are buried in this shadowy world?
You’ll have to read to find out.
Before I close up this review I thought I’d share some of Mizz Klehfoth’s poetic words… ‘Every great tragedy started with love.’ (Page 285) Ponder that a moment.
