Author: Cara Hunter
Genre: police procedural, psychological thriller
I picked up this book because Mz. Hunter had reviewed a book by an author I admire. I did enjoy the story, and there was a fast pace that picked me up right from the beginning. Basically, the story reads like an old guy kidnapped and through rape impregnated a young girl and kept them both hostage.
On happenstance a realty investor was rehabbing a house that was part of a row of houses. While working in the basement part of the dividing wall knocked down revealing the basement next door and they were faced, literally, with the face of someone who had long ago been kidnapped.
The story went along from there, holding me captive through great writing and interesting police procedure. The twist at the end was quite unexpected and after having finished this book I’m left unsure how I feel. It was very well written and thought out but I just don’t know if I liked the ending. I’m on the fence and would love to know what you think.
